In 1968, Detroit Tigers pitcher Denny McLain finished 31-6 with an ERA of 1.86. Not since Dizzy Dean went 30-7 in 1934 had a pitcher won 30 games in a season. The way starting pitchers are currently handled it is unlikely that 30 wins will ever be attained again.
